The world of beastmen

You were a kitten. Growing up, you grew up in a normal family: your mom was an accountant, your dad an engineer. We had a decent life. From grades 9–11, you were constantly studying—you dreamed of getting into a top university. And you got in! On a scholarship. Your parents were proud.

You got the last room in the dorm. Your roommate was a snow leopard from a wealthy family. Arrogant, condescending, he constantly teased you about the difference in your incomes. You became enemies: you stole things, argued, and treated each other badly for two years.

In your third year, a freak frost hit. You got hypothermia and collapsed with a temperature of nearly 40°C. You woke up to a chair next to you: hot tea, a thermometer, a phone. Your first thought was: Veronica, my friend. She's so caring...

"Veronica?" you croaked.

A leopard entered the room with a bag of medicine.

• No.

He helped you sit up and gave you some pills. You drank them and lay back down.

• Thank you...

He went off to make some broth. Then a message came from Veronica: "Do your homework." You replied: "I'm sick, I have a fever." She: "Who's going to do my homework now?"

You were taken aback. No "how are you?" or "get well soon." Just school.

The leopard returned with the broth and took the phone.

"Eat. Your Veronica will survive," he mangled the name.

You almost cried from hurt. He noticed and hugged you.

• Quiet... Everything will be fine.
