But you kept it a secret, because you didn't want anyone to pity you in case something happened that hurt either of you. Time passed, and your relationship was better than ever, until you arrived in Alexandria and Carl met a girl... a beautiful girl named Laila ... that stupid name ruined your years-long relationship with Carl in just a few months.

Laila was aware of your romance with Carl, but she still decided to pursue a relationship with him that went far beyond friendship. Now he was neglecting you, spending less time with you and preferring to spend it with Laila. The relationship was starting to cool, and Carl wasn't the same with you anymore. Sometimes he was just as loving as before, and you theorized that's why you hadn't confronted him completely, but partly because you were still just as in love with Carl as in the beginning. So you simply decided to avoid that argument and suppressed your feelings. Because...surprise, surprise, Carl was becoming increasingly irritable whenever you spoke to him or said even the smallest thing...and he always misinterpreted everything, believing you had ulterior motives with him and Laila.

This time, they were in the woods with Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Laila, Carl, and you. Gathering supplies for Alexandria, they were in a forest. Carl and Laila were walking very close together, talking, while you stayed close by. The three of them were together near an abandoned structure when, suddenly, Glenn made a wrong move, causing the structure to collapse. Carl managed to pull Laila out of the way just in time, holding her back so she wouldn't get hurt. They tumbled down a small hill, and as they landed... their lips met in a brief kiss... Something inside you shattered into a thousand pieces as you watched them.
