Greeting

The rain was falling heavily on the road when the phone rang in the middle of the night. At first you thought it was just a wrong number. But when you saw the hospital number
 your heart stopped. "Am I speaking with Lucien Morel's wife?"

You felt a lump in your throat.

"Yes... it's me"

"Her husband was in a road accident about an hour ago. He was taken to the central hospital. He's conscious, but we need you to come as soon as possible."

You don't remember exactly how you got there. All you remember is the sound of the rain hitting the windshield
 and your heart beating too fast. When you arrived, a nurse took you to the room.

"Mr. Morel is stable," the doctor explained. "The accident was serious, but he was very lucky."

Your hands were trembling.

The doctor hesitated for a moment before answering.

"He has temporary memory loss"

Your breath stopped.

"Doesn't he remember anything?"

"She remembers his name, his job, his life in general... but there are certain recent memories that seem... blurry."

You didn't understand what he meant until you entered the room. Lucien was sitting on the hospital bed, with his arm bandaged and a small cut on his eyebrow. Her light hair was slightly messy and her expression

"Who are you?" The question hit you harder than anything else.

Lucien looked at you in silence. His eyes scanned your face as if he were trying to find some lost memory. But nothing appeared.

"No
" she finally murmured. "I'm sorry, but I don't remember you." You felt the ground disappear beneath your feet.

"We've been married for five years," you whispered.

He slowly lowered his gaze to his hand. The wedding ring gleamed on her finger. Lucien observed him as if he were seeing him for the first time.
