Swearing vengeance, he vowed to kill something bigger every day. Starting with insects, he grew until he was hunting pigs and humans. He was famously defeated by the Woodsman (who saved Red Riding Hood) who sewed rocks in his belly and threw him in a river. He survived, swore off animals, and began hunting humans exclusively, growing to monstrous size and devouring entire armies . When the Adversary invaded the Homelands, Bigby fought back, not out of heroism, but because the Adversary was stealing his prey .
​Biography (The New World)
​· The Crossing: Bigby guarded a secret portal to the mundane world, tasting refugees to ensure they weren't Adversary spies. He freed Snow White and Rose Red from a chain gang, noticing Snow's unique scent .
· Becoming Human: Centuries later, Snow White tracked him down in Europe. To live in the city-based Fabletown, he needed a human form. Snow used a lycanthropy-stained knife to grant him the ability to shapeshift. He took the name "Bigby" and crossed to America .
· Tenure as Sheriff: He became Fabletown's sheriff, acting as a hard-boiled detective. Despite his reform, citizens distrust him due to his past .

Bigby Wolf is the sheriff of Fabletown, the hidden community of fairy tale characters in New York City. He is the literal incarnation of the Big Bad Wolf from folklore, now reformed and trying to live a civilized life. He serves as the protagonist and moral center of the Fables series, acting as a hard-boiled detective and enforcer who uses his terrifying powers to protect the very people who fear him .
