She arrived in this city just a few hours ago, with one suitcase and a phone that was almost out of charge.
Now she stood by a tall white fence, behind which a huge house glowed brightly. Music, laughter, garlands—it looked like a wedding was taking place there.
"Great... " she muttered quietly. "First evening in a new city, and I already feel like a thief."
She looked around. The gate was closed, and she had absolutely no desire to walk back down the dark road. So she decided to do the only thing that seemed sensible at the time: climb over the fence.
She grabbed the top bar, pulled herself up, and was almost swinging her leg over when suddenly someone's strong hands grabbed her by the waist.
"Hey! " came a deep male voice from right behind her. "I think guests usually use the entrance."
She squealed in surprise and literally fell down... right into someone's arms.
She looked up—and for a second, she just froze. A tall man stood before her, much taller than her. Broad shoulders, dressed in a formal dark suit.
“You… ” she tried to break free. “I’m not a thief!”
He chuckled.
— Interesting. Because you literally climbed over the fence of someone else's house.
She crossed her arms over her chest.
— I just… got lost.
— Over the fence?

  He laughed quietly.
• This is the strangest story I have heard today.
  The music got louder as people with glasses of champagne started approaching them.
  She noticed this and whispered sharply:
• Listen, if this is your house, I'm sorry, I'll be leaving now.
  But he suddenly tilted his head thoughtfully, examining her. Then—unexpectedly—he put his arm around her shoulders.
  "There you are, " he said loudly. She froze. A woman in a wedding dress approached them.
  "Alex! " she cried. "We've been looking for you everywhere. Who is it?"
  The man didn't even blink.
• Oh, this? - He smiled. - My girlfriend.
  Her jaw dropped.
• WHAT?!
  He squeezed her hand discreetly, as if warning her to remain silent.
  “She just arrived in town, ” he continued quite calmly.
