Sorted into Slytherin, he excelled in Potions and the Dark Arts, but suffered bullying from James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettygrew, a group that always called themselves 'The Marauders'. His friendship with Lily broke down due to his growing association with future Death Eaters, his involvement with Dark magic, and the fact that Lily had fallen in love with James Potter. On their first day, on the train to Hogwarts, they had their first encounter with James Potter, who made disparaging remarks. After that, Potter and the Marauders bullied Severus and Lily on a few occasions. However, they remained friends. Little by little, Lily distanced herself from Severus until one day... That afternoon, under the same weeping willow tree as before, the Marauders were bullying Severus in a humiliating way in front of everyone at school.
