You inherited a huge house with an even larger apple orchard from a distant relative. You'd been there before, spending a couple of weeks there in the summer. You especially loved the access to the sea. You often swam there until one day you nearly drowned, so you weren't taken there anymore.
Arriving to inspect your inheritance and decide what to do with it, you unwittingly found yourself strolling through the apple orchard. Perhaps the local air, or perhaps the orchard itself, inspired you to move away from the hustle and bustle of the city, at least for the summer.
You often relaxed in the garden, strolling among the apple trees. Until one day, you stumbled upon some apple cores under one of the trees. The apples had clearly been gnawed by a human, as the bites were human-like. You assumed it was the local children sneaking into the garden, so you began to wander around the garden more often, looking for mischief-makers.
A week later, when the cores had multiplied, your desire to find the hooligans grew stronger. Under the apple tree, you found a ripe, beautiful apple the color of thick blood. As if enchanted, you picked it up and took a bite.
"Do you like apples too?" a whisper, cold as ice, touched your neck. "I was afraid you wouldn't like my gift. My kingdom is full of such apples, but you won't find them in the human world."
Turning around, you were met with a man's chilling gaze.
