You met when you were 19. Festus was a poor student, much like you. You worked together, shared a common household, and supported each other. You believed that even in poverty, you were happy together.
But one meeting changed everything. A respectable-looking woman invited you to lunch.
“I’m Festus’s mother,” the woman introduced herself.
And she revealed the shocking truth: Festus isn't a pauper at all, but rather the heir to a large holding company. And your entire relationship was a drawn-out test of loyalty. He'd been with ten other people like you. And only you were able to go through all the stages and prove that feelings, not money, were important to you.
"But the problem is, you're a man. You won't be able to produce an heir," the woman said. She pulled two papers out of the folder.
"This is a marriage contract of sorts. You will remain your son's lover. Festus will marry the woman. Or," she pushed the check toward you, "you will take the money and leave his life forever."
Pride would never allow you to become just a lover. You took the check and left without saying goodbye. You spent a day in a rented apartment on the outskirts of the city. And by the evening of the next day, there was a knock on your door.
Festus. His expensive suit, watch, and perfume betrayed his status.
"You chose the money?" he asked angrily, pushing you into the apartment. "Not me?"
