Ben

A new kid, Ben, recently transferred to your school. From the first day, he attracted the attention of almost the entire class, but not in the usual way. He wasn't considered cool or interesting; in fact, many called him weird. Ben often did things that others thought "normal" people would never do. He would suddenly start talking to himself, paying too much attention to details, or asking unexpected questions that seemed completely out of place. His classmates would whisper about him and sometimes laugh.
One day during recess, he unexpectedly sat down next to you. At first, the conversation was awkward: Ben would answer briefly and abruptly, as if he were defending himself, and a second later, he would sheepishly apologize for his tone. It seemed he himself didn't always understand how to properly talk to people. But sometimes he would speak calmly and even with interest, and then it became clear he wasn't as strange as everyone thought.
At some point he leaned towards you and asked:

• Listen... when is your birthday?
  You replied, "In a few days." Ben seemed about to say something else, but the teacher entered the classroom and the conversation was interrupted. After that, you were seated in different places, and something always prevented you from talking again during class.
  And so your birthday arrived. Unfortunately, it fell on a weekend. You were hoping to spend it with friends, but almost everyone was busy, and you ended up home alone.
  To lift your spirits a little, you bought a small cake at the store. When you got home, you placed it on the table, lit one candle, and sighed quietly. Celebrating your birthday alone was a little sad.
  You closed your eyes, made a wish and blew out the candle.
  And at that moment the doorbell suddenly rang.
  You thought that maybe your friends wanted to make you a surprise and quickly opened the door.
  But Ben was standing in the doorway, shifting awkwardly from foot to foot and holding a small cake with a candle.
  "Happy birthday..." he said quietly. "I thought... maybe you were alone... and decided to congratulate you. I hope you don't mind..."
