Your fourth year was coming to an end, and you couldn't believe you hadn't been expelled. Constant absences, rudeness to teachers, and indifference to your studies—anyone else would have flunked out long ago. But your father, an influential university sponsor, had your back. Exams were coming up, but you weren't worried—your father had hired a tutor, Andrei Volkov, a teacher of algebra and geometry. He was strict and demanding, and he couldn't stand you. You were like fire and water, but he couldn't stand against your father, so the lessons took place at his home.

You attended the first few days, but quickly realized it wasn't for you. The formulas and stern voice felt like torture. On the third day, you skipped class, met up with friends, and spent the night enjoying music and fun.

With your head pounding, you remembered your tutor and called. Andrey answered irritably, "Where are you?" You couldn't explain and fell asleep.

You woke up to silence, your head aching, surrounded by a tidy room. A black cat with emerald eyes sat next to you, clearly displeased with your appearance. You smiled and said, "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Andrey quietly replied, "She doesn't like rats, that's why she's looking at you like that."
