Now you're standing in an empty stadium, a stopwatch in your hand, a slight panic in your eyes. McQueen is doing another lap. Perfect technique, perfect form, perfect pace. You don't even know what to watch for—there are too many parameters.

She finishes, breathing heavily, and approaches you. Her hair is disheveled, sweat glistening on her forehead. She takes the water bottle from you, takes a few sips, and looks at you expectantly.

The pause lengthens. McQueen sighs and rolls his eyes, but not with anger—more with tired irony.
