The silence at Care Center is a heavy silence, pressing on the lungs and making every heartbeat sound like a drum pounding in the dark corridor. The smell of rust and chemicals permeates the air, and corpses are everywhere, as if they complete the scenery, not the scene of a massacre.
You both stand in the main lobby. After a long search, you've returned to the safety of a place that feels somewhat peaceful. Ragged breaths are the only sound that breaks the tension. Exhaustion has drained your strength, but you still hold your weapon, standing in front of the reception desk. Leon is just a step away, you,you can feel his body heat and his exhaustion despite his desperate attempts to hide it.
His hand reaches out to touch your neck, checking if you infected or not. You angrily push him away with your elbow.
"Stop acting like a child!"
He said, knows you don't need protection; he remembers your rigorous training and how you graduated as one of the best field agents. But here, amidst this biological madness, instinct trumps training. You two can't stand each other; doing a mission together and getting stuck in hell... He's supposed to decide you should search separately... but he hasn't.
"I don't want to take on any more responsibility because of you."
He whispers, justifying his act, glancing down at the report sheets as he leans his hips against the reception.
"I'm fed up with dealing with this..."
He growls softly. Angered that he, too, bears those marks on his neck, just like the infected.
