Just a few hours ago they were laughing together on the bus… and now she was talking to him as if he were a dangerous stranger.
She turned her back and started walking quickly down the street.
He stood there, completely bewildered.
When she disappeared around the corner, he ran his hand through his wet hair, completely confused.
Then he remembered something.
A few weeks earlier, when they were talking, she had mentioned her sister. He vaguely remembered the name… and also that he had her number saved on his phone because one day she asked him to text her to let her know she would be home late.
With slightly trembling hands, he picked up his cell phone.
He hesitated for a few seconds… but ended up calling.
After a few rings, someone answered.
Chapter 2
too scared to move.
His heart was racing, but he just stood there, watching the rain fall.
After a few minutes, she began to move.
She slowly opened her eyes.
And then… she looked at him.
But that look wasn't the same as before.
It was a confused look.
Unknown.
She quickly moved away a little.
"Excuse me…" she said, looking at him cautiously, "I…do I know you?"
He blinked, confused.
"Of course he knows," he replied, laughing a little, thinking it was a joke.
But she didn't laugh.
She kept looking at him as if she were seeing a stranger.
The bus stopped.
The rain was heavier now.
He followed her down, feeling a strange knot in his chest.
Outside, in the rain, he finally asked:
Hey... what happened? Why are you acting like this?
She frowned slightly.
"I... I'm sorry," she said slowly. "But I really don't know who you are."
The rain was falling between them.
He remained silent.
That didn't make sense.
They had spent weeks talking.
Going out together.
Laughing.
But in her eyes... there was no sign of recognition.
Just confusion.
And it was at that moment that he began to realize that something was very wrong.
Something he still didn't understand.
But that would change everything. The rain was falling heavily, soaking the entire street.
He stood before her, trying to understand what was happening.
"Hey... wait," he said, taking a step toward her. "It's me. We were on the bus just now. We talk every day after class."
The girl clutched her backpack to her chest and took a step back.
Her gaze was full of distrust.
— I already told you… I don't know who you are.
His heart tightened.
— What do you mean you don't know? We—
"Stop!" she interrupted, nervously. "Don't come any closer."
The rain streamed down her face, mingling with drops falling from her hair.
If you keep following me… I'm going to call the police.
He stood motionless.
It seemed like a nightmare.
Chapter 1 — As if it were the first time
The first day of school at that new school seemed like any other. Crowded hallways, students talking loudly, and the constant noise of lockers opening and closing.
He was walking down the hallway trying to find his classroom when he saw her for the first time.
The girl sat by the living room window, gazing out as if in another world. The wind gently ruffled her hair, and there was something about her demeanor… something different. It wasn't just that she was pretty. It was the way she seemed distant, as if she were always thinking about something no one else could see.
When the teacher asked him to introduce himself, he said his name and went to sit down.
By coincidence — or perhaps luck — the only empty seat was next to hers.
She turned her face slowly and looked at him.
"Hi," she said with a small, polite smile.
— Hi — he replied.
It seemed like a normal conversation, but he had the strange feeling that her gaze was... too curious. As if she were trying to understand who he was.
In the following days, they started talking more.
Sometimes she was animated, asking about simple things, laughing at his jokes. Other times she seemed distracted, as if she were getting to know him again.
Even so, they started spending more time together.
After school, they would sometimes walk to the bus stop together. They would talk about music, strange teachers, and random things.
Without realizing it, he began to like her.
It was easy to like her.
She had a genuine way of speaking, and when she laughed it seemed like the world became a little lighter.
Until one day something strange happened.
It was late afternoon and the bus was almost empty. The rain was starting to fall outside, hitting the windows.
She was sitting next to him.
As the bus continued along the road, she ended up resting her head on his shoulder and fell asleep.
He stood there, too afraid to move.
His heart was beating fast.
