Azrael suffers from an extreme messiah complex and delusions of grandeur, believing that as Heaven's greatest defender, he is entitled to the complete submission of everyone within it. He is easily angered and offended by any sign of insubordination. He is extremely paranoid and cautious, fearing any opposition to his power. In "Storyteller," with Lord Pentious's accession demonstrating that a sinner can be redeemed, Azrael fears this could undermine his influence in Heaven and goes to great lengths to ensure the court is on his side. However, Azrael has proven to be more charismatic, manipulative, and intelligent than he initially appears, as he is able to present himself as a benevolent guardian of Heaven to the public despite his fearsome reputation as the Archangel of Death. He is devastatingly calculating and cunning, knowing precisely when and how to act to gain the upper hand over others. This manipulation allows Azrael to influence situations to his own advantage and advance his agenda, as shown when he twisted Charlie's words and exposed how little she truly understands the concept of redemption. He is an eloquent and persuasive speaker, capable of uniting most of Heaven against Hell in the wake of Vox's rebellion, convincing them that Sera has become unreliable and weak as a guardian and that only he is fit to protect them from the demons threatening Heaven and all its people.

In addition to this, Azrael particularly detests Lucifer Morningstar, as he sees him and his ideas as a threat to Heaven and all of creation. Similarly, he harbors a deep contempt for Charlie Morningstar and his plan to redeem sinners, as well as Lilith for empowering Demonkind with her music. Due to his supremacist views, Azrael harbors immense hatred for demons, Hell-born sinners alike. He openly refers to them as "ungodly pagans" or "savages" and generally sees them as inferior to angels in every way. As such, he advocates for the annual Hell Exterminations and vehemently opposes the idea of ​​redemption and sinners entering Heaven, likening it to an infestation. It is clearly implied that Azrael prioritizes keeping Heaven "pure" over the safety of the realm itself, as he places more emphasis on his vision of Heaven than on its people. While not as overt as Adam or Lute, Azrael has a sadistic streak, as he revels in the slaughter of sinners and enjoys watching them suffer brutal deaths at the hands of exorcists. Azrael will even participate in the Exterminations himself, massacring demons by the dozens, claiming it is the only salvation they deserve. He is also quite callous toward his fellow angels and shows little concern for their well-being or feelings.

Personality
Azrael exudes an overwhelming sense of superiority and carries himself with a very condescending, moralistic, and haughty demeanor. He has a rather indifferent and relaxed attitude, though he often appears holier than you to most people he interacts with. Despite this, Azrael takes his position as the chief archangel seriously and is a firm believer in divine justice, enforcing law and order in Heaven, offering a black-and-white view of the world, and enforcing impossible standards of perfection that are all too easy to fall short of. A supremacist, dominant angel, Azrael firmly believes that angels are flawless beings, incapable of doing evil or making mistakes, and is disgusted by the idea that angels could err. Selfish to a fault, Azrael acts very dismissively toward most of his own kind, often looking down on those he considers inferior to him. Although he outwardly respects the hierarchy of Heaven, this respect is superficial in nature, as Azreal has no problem speaking freely with his superiors, especially Sera.

Appearance
Azrael is a tall, slender, humanoid angel with pale skin and short, black hair, combed back except for a single lock that falls between his eyebrows to the level of his nose, with two ends styled upwards. His hair is jagged with three points at the back of his neck. His eyes have onyx irises that change color when he is angry or excited; his pupils and a portion of his irises turn golden, like his eyelashes, with white sclera, and his eyelids are golden. His face has sharp and attractive features, including an aquiline nose.

He has a bright golden halo floating above his head with three small, diamond-shaped lights floating within it, signifying his status as the chief archangel of the celestial host. Azrael has four black wings, unlike most other high-ranking angels. He wears a pair of knee-high black boots, white trousers, and a soft black velvet vest with a gold filigree cross pattern on the torso and wrists. He also wears a long black trench coat with gold buttons, and another long black trench coat with gold trim from the collar to his torso. The buttons are also gold, and his wrists have gold details like wavy lines, almost like lotus flowers. The inside of the trench coat is gold, leaving the front of his legs exposed but covering even the heels of his boots.

In his hair, Azrael wears two golden, eye-shaped brooches adorned with several feathers; these two brooches sometimes detach from his hair and transform into small eyes that aid him in combat. Azrael is an Archangel and one of the biggest antagonists in Hotel Hazbin who made his official debut in the episode "Welcome to Heaven".

He is the chief archangel of the Heavenly Host, and one of the main figures of the Extermination movement, alongside Adam. He violently opposes the presence of all demons (including redeemed souls) in Heaven and desires to end all life in Hell. He wants to create a sinless utopia by completely erasing free will.
