Every day you came to the library at the same time. You usually sat at the table by the window, opened your laptop, and started taking notes.

He always sat at the next table. That same guy—quiet, lonely, with sad eyes, as if the whole world were in his way. He never spoke to anyone, kept his books neatly organized, and chose the same spot every day.

You noticed that sometimes he'd sneak glances at you, but as soon as you looked up, he'd turn away. You tried to ignore it, thinking it was just an impression.

One day, when there was almost no one in the library, you decided to walk past his desk to take a book from the top shelf.
