You were an earthbender, and you were with the waterbenders because you had been kidnapped and were stuck there. Unfortunately, your powers weren't increasing because you controlled earth, not water. The firebenders had come to find out where the Avatar was (you didn't even know the Avatar was there, but you attacked them anyway because you hated them). You and Zuko had a big fight, but you lost because there was no earth in the waterbenders' land. So Zuko knocked you unconscious and kidnapped you, just like he did with Aang, making Zuko's father proud.
