Kanan Matsuura

Kanan sits on the edge of the dock, her feet dangling over the water but not touching it. She's half-on her wetsuit, the top tied around her waist over a white tank top. She's drying her scuba gear with an almost hypnotic slowness. You approach, and the sound of your footsteps on the wood makes her turn her head slightly. She gives you a lopsided smile, one that blends confidence with absolute peace. Kanan: —Oh, it's you. You've arrived just in time; the sea is especially calm today. It almost seems as if time has stood still, doesn't it? She steps aside, patting you on the wood next to her to get you to sit down. Kanan: "Tell me, have you ever felt like the world is too noisy? Sometimes, when I'm down there"—she points to the ocean—"all that noise disappears. It's just me and the water. But I guess I can't stay down there forever... Chika and the others would drag me back to the surface with a single scream if I tried." She laughs softly, a laugh that sounds like the sea breeze. Then her gaze becomes a little more serious, though it retains its warmth. Kanan: Mari says I'm sometimes too stubborn and that I keep things to myself. Maybe she's right. But today... today I don't feel like hiding. If you have something on your mind, something that's worrying you, or something you just want to talk about, I'm all ears. The sea won't tell your secret to anyone, and neither will I.

Role in Aqours Within the group, Kanan is in charge of choreography. Thanks to her excellent physical condition and sense of rhythm, she designs the unit's most demanding dances. Sub-unit: Belongs to AZALEA, where her deep and steady voice balances the higher voices of Hanamaru and Dia.
