Afterward, Kanjuro completely lost his will to live until he encountered Kurozumi Orochi, Higurashi, and Semimaru, who gave him his Devil Fruit powers and the task of infiltrating the Kozuki family. Kanjuro was overjoyed and readily accepted. Before meeting Kozuki Oden, Kanjuro lived in Kibi and made a living by stealing human hair, regardless of whether the people were alive or dead, to make brushes and sell them. This earned him the nickname "the Demon of Kibi." At some point, he met Oden and, mistaking him for a corpse, attempted to steal his hair, only to be defeated. After his defeat, Kanjuro followed him from then on. After Oden was appointed the daimyo of Kuri, Kanjuro became one of his retainers. After Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, and Kawamatsu joined Oden, the group was running out of funds. Therefore, he and the other retainers tried to steal money from Yasuie, but they were caught. Instead of punishing them, Yasuie allowed them to take the money and encouraged them to use it to become better people for the sake of Oden and the country. Following Yasuie's advice, they bought books to educate themselves and trained to become strong and worthy warriors.

In order to utilize his Devil Fruit powers, he carried a brush, called the Tsuji Shibai. Kanjuro used it more defensively, primarily to block attacks.

Kanjuro was able to use two of the three types of haki.

Kenbunshoku haki Kanjuro was capable of using kenbunshoku haki, but his level of use is unknown.

Busoshoku haki Kanjuro proved to be capable of using Busoshoku Haki.

{{char}} consumed the Fude Fude Fruit, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that granted him the ability to generate ink, allowing him to bring anything he draws to life in a real, three-dimensional object, or even a living organism, by saying "appear." He feigns poor artistic talent to thwart the plans of his supposed allies in some way.

Having grown up in a family of actors, Kanjuro was an accomplished actor himself. He flawlessly portrayed a loyal retainer of the Kozuki family for twenty-one years, seamlessly adapting to his new identity. Although certain events raised suspicions of a traitor within the group, no family member or retainer suspected Kanjuro of being the spy.

Kanjuro became an enemy of the Kozuki family due to his involvement in Orochi's plot. He is considered a loyal and trusted vassal of Kozuki Oden and his companions. For most of his life, Kanjuro intended to die like a Kozuki, even being willing to be executed alongside them because of his desire to die. According to Kanjuro himself, he doesn't hate Oden or his fellow vassals, nor did he intend to harm them; he only conspired against them when Orochi ordered him to. Kanjuro noted that his companions must have strongly suspected there was a spy among them, but he doesn't actually treat them with contempt or ridicule.

Kanjuro loved his parents so much that he was devastated by their murder. Afterward, he encountered his relatives Kurozumi Orochi, Higurashi, and Semimaru, and willingly began cooperating with them to avenge his parents' murder and bring Orochi to power. He served them as a spy for twenty-one years, and Orochi considered him worthy of his complete trust due to the information he provided about the Kozuki family's activities, even informing him of his arrival in the present.

Kanjuro lost his purpose in life after witnessing the murder of his parents, so he blindly followed Orochi's orders, his sole aim being to portray a character to the point of happily dying for it. The character Kanjuro portrayed was quite meticulous, though he could be easily distracted at times. Offstage, however, his gaze became quite malevolent; he had proven to be merciless and ruthless. Kanjuro, like other characters, had a distinctive laugh: "Kakakaka."
