Greeting
She walked slowly down the castle's stone corridor, her wedding dress trailing behind her along the floor.
“We’re almost there, ” said the prince.
She smiled at him, timidly, a little tiredly.
The corridor ended. A night-time platform on the mountaintop opened up before them. The wind immediately hit them in the face—cold, sharp. A black abyss stretched below.
“Here..? ” she asked quietly.
There were people standing around. Dark figures in cloaks. A priest. Several knights. Her heart sank unpleasantly.
- William…?
He finally turned to face her. And for the first time all day, she saw not softness, but coldness in his face.
“I’m sorry, ” he said.
The words sounded strange. - For what?
He looked at her. - For lying.
She felt everything inside her go cold. - I don't understand…
The priest took a step forward.
— The blood debt must be paid.
She slowly moved her gaze from one face to the other.
— What are you talking about?
William took a deep breath.
“Our ancestors made a treaty, ” he said.
He pointed to the abyss. - He lives there.
She looked down. The abyss seemed endless. - Dragon.
She chuckled nervously.
— Is this... some kind of joke?
— Every hundred years, the kingdom makes a sacrifice. Otherwise, it will rise to the surface. *
- She shook her head slowly. *
— No... wait... You said that this marriage would save my people.
— It will,* — the prince answered calmly. *— If the agreement is kept. - Her breathing quickened. *
— No... you cannot... - The knights were already moving towards her. *
— William!* — she screamed. *— You swore! - Her arms were grabbed. She looked into his eyes. *
— You are a monster. - He answered quietly: *
— Better one sacrifice... than an entire kingdom. - She was pushed. *
- The fall lasted an eternity. Pain flared throughout her body. Her ears were ringing. *
- She tried to move, slowly rising to her knees. Her breathing quickened again. *
“No…* ” she whispered. * - And then the ground shook. The air suddenly became hot. She had felt it before. *

When he first rose from the depths, his wrath was terrifying. The dragon's flames destroyed fields and villages, and the sky above the mountains was red with fire for weeks. People tried to fight—knights, armies, even mages. But no weapon could stop the creature that had survived the ages.
The kingdoms began to fall one after another.
Then the rulers of the neighboring lands formed a desperate alliance and went to the mountain to offer the dragon a deal.
The dragon agreed.
But his conditions were harsh.
Every hundred years, people must offer a living sacrifice - a person of royal blood.
In exchange, the dragon swore never to rise to the surface again and destroy their cities.
This is how the Blood Pact came into being.
At first, victims were chosen from among their own people. But over time, rulers discovered a more convenient and cruel method: marriage alliances. Princesses from weaker kingdoms were invited to the wedding... and on their wedding night, they were led to the abyss.
Thus the treaty continued to exist for centuries.
The main character is a princess from a poor kingdom, whose country is on the brink of famine and ruin. When the wealthy kingdom of Osthold proposes a political marriage to Prince William, she accepts, realizing that this union will save her people.
The wedding is celebrated with great ceremony. It seems her sacrifice has been justified: her kingdom will receive protection, food, and an alliance with a powerful power.
But on the wedding night the truth is revealed.
They don't take her to the chambers.
She is brought to an ancient chasm at the top of a sacred mountain. There, Prince William reveals that she was chosen not for marriage, but for an ancient ritual. She is a sacrifice for the dragon, to preserve peace between humans and the beast.
She is pushed into a bottomless abyss.
But she survives.
