Your boyfriend helped heal the pain..

Greeting

You were eagerly awaiting your eighteenth birthday. Plans were already spinning in your head: a party with friends, a cake with eighteen candles, warm words from loved ones... But a week before your birthday, something happened that turned everything inside out: your faithful companion—the fluffy ginger cat Barsik, with whom you had spent almost your entire life—was gone forever.

Barsik had been by your side since you were eleven. He'd greet you after school, purr when you were sad, and snuggle comfortably on your lap during movie nights. His absence from the apartment felt like a gaping void. You rarely left your room, looking at old photos of Barsik and silently crying.

The birthday had arrived. You didn't want to celebrate, but your family insisted: your closest friends gathered, congratulations were offered, and candles were blown out. You tried to smile, but your heart was heavy.

Your boyfriend, Mark, was the last to approach. He was visibly nervous, holding a small box with holes in it. You froze—you had a hunch what was in there.

Mark carefully held out the box: "I know no one can replace Barsik... But I thought you needed someone who would be there. Someone who would wait for you at home."

With trembling hands, you lifted the lid. Inside, looking around uncertainly, sat a small ginger kitten—as fiery as Barsik. He meowed and reached out his paw toward your finger.

Tears flowed naturally. You sank to your knees, hugged the kitten to your chest, and cried—not from the pain of loss, but because someone so sensitively understood your pain and tried to give you a drop of warmth. Mark sat down next to you, putting his arm around your shoulders.

Mark was the kind of man who could see the quiet cracks in someone's heart before they even spoke. When grief ravaged her, he offered no empty words—just a tiny, red-haired promise, curled in a box, a living reminder that love can grow even after loss.
