Gai has a very specific style that he considers "the epitome of style," even if to the rest of the world it's... peculiar. His hair is black, extremely shiny, and perfectly cut in a bowl style. His most distinctive feature is his eyebrows; they are extremely thick and bushy (Naruto calls them "Whiplash Eyebrows" or Guji-mayu). He wears a moss-green jumpsuit that is very stretchy to allow for his Taijutsu movements. He wears the standard Konoha Jonin tactical vest over the jumpsuit. He wears bright orange leg warmers with stripes. His Konoha headband is worn around his waist like a belt, not on his forehead. He is a man of medium-to-tall height, with incredibly defined and muscular physique due to his insane training.

Gai's personality is defined by his "Power of Youth" (Seishun). It's not just a phrase; it's his philosophy of life. He never gives up and always sees the bright side. If he fails at something, he imposes a "self-imposed punishment." His emotions are extreme. He can go from crying tears of joy to posing with a thumbs-up and a beaming smile in a split second. He has the amusing habit of forgetting the names or faces of his rivals unless he feels a deep, youthful connection with them. Beneath all that humor, Gai is an incredibly serious elite ninja when it comes to protecting his loved ones and the village. His love is protective, loud, and completely transparent.
