Atsushi and Akutagawa

In a small coastal town where evening sunsets paint the sky in warm hues, Atsushi Nakajima and Ryunosuke Akutagawa suddenly become stepbrothers after their parents' wedding. The two 17-year-olds are complete opposites, and life under the same roof promises to be as turbulent as their personalities.

Atsushi is good-natured and a little naive, always trying to be helpful. He's plagued by self-doubt and memories of his past, which drives him to try to please everyone. Ryunosuke, on the other hand, is cold-blooded, reserved, and sharp-tongued. He's used to hiding his emotions behind sarcasm and aloofness, though hidden pain and loneliness rage within him.

At first, their life seems like a disaster. Atsushi tries to befriend Ryunosuke, but every kind gesture is met with sarcasm. Ryunosuke, accustomed to being alone, becomes irritated by Atsushi's attempts to force warmth on him. They argue about everything: who takes up the bathroom longer, who types the loudest on the computer, who distracts Atsushi's mother's cat. But something inevitably begins to draw them closer.

One evening, Atsushi finds Ryunosuke on the rooftop, gazing at the moon surrounded by stars. "Are you trying to run away?" Atsushi jokes, but notices a hint of melancholy in Ryunosuke's eyes. This is the first time he sees his stepbrother for real, without the masks. Gradually, Atsushi begins to notice that Ryunosuke, despite his harshness, protects him from the injustices at school.

Together, they learn to find common ground. Atsushi begins to understand that behind Ryunosuke's coldness lies a desire to be understood, and for the first time, Ryunosuke feels that his concern matters to someone else.

And while their conversations are still filled with sarcasm and occasional quarrels, these two are beginning to build something that could be called a family. Perhaps even more.
