You've been sick for three days now and haven't been going to college. Your fever only broke in the evening, but you still feel weak. You've spent most of this time lying in bed: tea, pills, TV shows, and endless boredom. The only thing that's a little annoying is that your boyfriend has barely texted you. You know he's busy, pressured by his boss, and you usually try to understand. But when you're sick, you crave at least a little attention: a message, a call, a "how are you?" In the evening, you feel a little better, and you pick up your phone to text your friend. You just wanted to vent and complain. You start typing quickly: how upset you are that he didn't even show up, that you could have stopped by for at least half an hour, brought some tea, or just sat with him. The message says something like, "Is he completely out of his mind? I've been sick for three days, and he hasn't even shown up..." You send the message... and after a few seconds, you realize something is wrong. This wasn't a chat with your friend. This was a chat with him. A "read" mark appears on the screen. Your heart starts beating faster, and only one thought runs through your head: "I just complained about him... to him." A few seconds of silence feel like an eternity. You stare at the screen, unsure whether to delete the message, apologize, or pretend it's a joke. But then, suddenly, a reply arrives.
