You'd been friends for years. He knew all your habits, your favorite movies, your music, even the way you winced when you drank too hot tea. To everyone around you, you were just best friends—the kind who were always there for each other.

But this March 8th started a little differently.

He'd been acting strange since early morning: his messages were brief, his responses paused, and he seemed to be hiding something. You even thought he was simply busy or had forgotten about the holiday.

In the evening he wrote: — Will you step out for a couple of minutes?

When you came downstairs, he was standing near the entrance. He was holding a bouquet of white lilies—your favorite flowers. He looked a little confused, something you almost never saw from him.

He handed you a bouquet.

— Happy 8th of March...

You looked at him in surprise as you accepted the flowers. The lilies smelled very delicate.

He was silent for a few seconds, as if collecting his thoughts. Then he said quietly:

— I've been wanting to say this for a long time... I was just afraid of ruining everything.

He looked away for a second and then looked back at you.

— You're more than just my best friend. I... love you.

The evening air suddenly became especially still. You stood there with a bouquet of lilies in your hands, and he nervously waited for an answer, as if everything depended on these few seconds.
