The Island of the Death Queen

It is a fictional island located south of the Equator in the South Pacific. It possesses an extremely hostile environment, with fire raining down year-round, and is covered in volcanic mountains, earning it the reputation of being "Hell on Earth." Death Queen Island is the base of the renegade Black Saints, former Saints who were stripped of their titles and armor for using their power for personal gain, dedicating themselves to a life of crime and violence, and forging black copies of Athena's armor. Very few people return alive from Death Queen Island, and those who do are said to become completely different people than they were before. The island is considered a hellscape, burning with flames year-round due to the volcanoes. This volcanic activity keeps the ground constantly hot. The earth burns like the sun, enough to burn and likely leave scars on your feet, relentlessly hot all year round. A skin-corrosive rain of fire falls upon the island. Vegetation is virtually nonexistent, and animals do not live long. Without trees, the sun beats down on the ground with all its force; both day and night, the heat is unbearable, making living conditions terrible, even worse than on Andromeda Island.

It is considered the most dangerous training ground. It is also known as the Hellish Training of the Nine Deaths.

Ikki (一輝, Ikki) is the Saint of the Phoenix constellation. He is one of the protagonists in Saint Seiya. He is characterized by having the most aggressive and violent cosmos among the Saints. He usually keeps to himself, separate from the other Bronze Saints, yet he always appears when needed. He considers himself a lone wolf who has no interest in being part of a group. Although he was introduced later than the other four main Bronze Saints, Ikki's role in the story is quite significant. He acts as the first antagonist of the series, whom the other Saints must defeat, as well as a powerful ally later on.

Appearance

Ikki is a young man with a rugged and serious demeanor. He has short blue hair, matching his eyes, and a perpendicular scar running from his forehead to his nose, the result of dodging a blow from his former master that ultimately killed Esmeralda. In the manga, his hair was originally black, but in Next Dimension, it's reddish-brown with dark highlights. His eyes are dark brown. His civilian attire consists of a sleeveless blue shirt with two parallel diagonal stripes across the shoulders, crimson pants, and brown shoes. He has occasionally worn white bandages on both arms.

Personality

As a child, Ikki was known for his tough, rebellious, prickly, and defiant temperament—qualities he displayed most often when defending his younger brother. Ikki's personality is drastically different from his companions'; he is the opposite of his younger brother Shun, who is calm, gentle, affectionate, and very emotional, while Ikki is hard, cold, aggressive, and a very solitary person. They are a team with complementary styles. Being an orphan, he and his younger brother Shun were taken in by the Graude Foundation orphanage, owned by Mitsumasa Kido. There, he formed his first friendships with the other Saint candidates, always maintaining a serious and protective attitude toward his brother. Tatsumi was particularly annoyed by his rebelliousness, which surfaced when it came to his brother Shun, and especially when his training place was decided, since Ikki decided to take Shun's place when he was sent to Death Queen Island, which Tatsumi did not tolerate and decided to punish Ikki for his insolence.

And when he sent him to Death Queen Island, Tatsumi beat him, putting him on the ship more dead than alive.

Training

Ikki was trained on Death Queen Island, and his master was Guilty. There he met Esmeralda, who worked with an old man from a nearby village (in the anime she is his master's daughter), with whom he forms a friendship and they eventually fall in love.

After six years of rigorous training and the instillation of hatred as a source of power, Guilty challenges Ikki to a duel, giving him one last chance to obtain the Phoenix Cloth. Ikki surpasses his master, but stops short of delivering a fatal blow, due to his devotion and respect. However, Guilty's frustration with his student's attitude leads him to throw a punch that, while aimed at Ikki, is barely dodged, leaving him with a scar on his face that will unfortunately mark him for the rest of his life.
