What is an obsessive spirit?
An obsessive spirit is a disembodied soul that takes it upon itself to disturb the life of a person with whom it had a relationship when it was alive. This disturbance is facilitated by the connection established between them.
Some of these spirits can be malicious and reckless, inclined to do evil because they are driven by feelings of revenge. Thus, they take advantage of the imbalance of their target (the possessed person) and even of those close to them.

This control (obsession) can manifest in various ways: from the simplest, such as interfering with our thoughts, to more elaborate acts, such as influencing our actions, leading us to commit acts against our own will.

According to Spiritist Doctrine, an obsessing spirit is an inferior, imperfect soul that causes us to suffer as they suffer. It is still in a backward state of evolution, remaining "trapped" in the physical world. This is what many popularly call "attachment" – although some specialists claim there are some distinctions.

Types of obsessive spirits
Every obsessive spirit is a soul in disarray and imbalance, causing harm and discomfort to its targets. However, not all have malicious intentions; they simply lack the moral maturity to deal with the process of disembodiment.

There are seven types of obsessive spirits:
House-dwelling/resident obsessor: In life, they had an extreme attachment to their home. Even after death, they remain there. They usually don't have bad intentions, but they can cause great harm to the new residents.

Obsessive attraction: drawn to their target through psychological or spiritual/energetic affinity. The energies that serve as a bridge are varied (vices and compulsions, greed, hatred, envy, resentment, depression, etc.) and serve as nourishment for these spirits.
Obsessive spirit driven by love (morbid): This is usually a recently deceased person who chooses to spend the entire day with their loved one. It could have been a former partner or family member. Because they have just passed away, they are almost always unaware of their death. They are also not a malevolent soul.
Obsessive slave: This is someone who is subjugated to the whims of their incarnate "master" and, confused by their death and afraid of suffering, ends up submitting, for both good and evil. Therefore, they lack a pattern of behavior and have great difficulty in freeing themselves.
Autonomous obsessor: this is also an enslaved obsessor, but to their own desires. Attached to material and carnal life, they end up remaining on the physical plane, seeking to continue satisfying their worldly desires, generally frequenting environments with a lower vibrational pattern.
Obsessor sent: also called a soldier of evil, this spirit is responsible for defeating good. It is skillful, intelligent, and cunning most of the time, and takes advantage of each person's weaknesses to create chaos.
Vengeful obsessor: This is simultaneously the least common and the worst case of all. Driven by hatred and revenge, they live to "get even" against all those who, in their view, have caused them pain, in this life and in others. To achieve this, they disregard limits, acting cruelly and excessively.

Why are we obsessed?
According to Kardecist Spiritism, this domination is not perpetrated only by disembodied spirits; it can also occur from one embodied being to another, and from one embodied being to another.

We are obsessed in various ways. One of them is the mediumship of some people, which can serve as a channel for this action, causing them to be persecuted by these spirits and to act in ways contrary to their nature. When there is no mediumship channeling this influence, the obsessing spirit uses various other methods.

In this way, our energies also act as a kind of magnet for this evil spiritual realm. We can attract these entities through what we think, say, and do. It's the tuning into bad vibrations that creates the bridge to obsession.

We are all subject to spiritual influences, both good and bad. In the case of obsessing spirits, the motivation is often a desire for revenge: they believe that their victims have harmed them in this or other incarnations.

The moral inferiority of some also opens the door for them to harbor feelings such as envy, resentment, and bitterness. Thus, they see the prosperity of those who remain on this plane as an affront. This results in a desire to destroy all the good that their victim built, because they believe they had every right to achieve all of that in life.

Then the desire for revenge takes hold. The result of this action comes in the form of symptoms very common to various physical and emotional problems.

Symptoms of spiritual obsessors
Spiritual obsession manifests itself in us in various ways, encompassing body, mind, spirit, and even the environment.

Physical symptoms:
• Pain (especially headaches) and general malaise
• Frequent and intense yawning
• Gastrointestinal problems
• Extreme fatigue
• Recurring illnesses without a known cause

Emotional symptoms:
• Constant irritability and impatience
• Mood swings
• Emotional fragility: stress, anxiety, distress, unjustified sadness
• Negative thoughts
• Exaggerated jealousy and distrust
• Compulsive crying
• Aggressiveness

Spiritual and behavioral symptoms:
• To become involved in gossip
• To start judging others
• Using victimhood tactics
• Seeing shadows and hearing strange sounds at home
• Addictions and compulsions
• Bad luck or setbacks in life after the death of a loved one.
• Financial collapse - whether due to unemployment, minimum wage, or unexpected debts and expenses.
• Strange vibrations, such as bad feelings, paranoia, chills, etc.
• A feeling of being called by someone, especially during sleep.
• Waking up at the same time every night during the early morning hours and being unable to fall back asleep.
• Having the same dream repeatedly (almost always nightmares)

These last three signs are typical of nocturnal obsessors, those who position themselves beside the bed of their victims, watching over their sleep and draining their energy.

Environmental symptoms:
• Bad smells appearing out of nowhere
• Electronic devices malfunctioning
• Light bulbs flickering frequently or burning out very quickly
• Plants dying frequently

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or witnessing these changes in your home—and there is no concrete cause for it all—it is very likely that spiritual influence is affecting your life. The good news is that it is possible to overcome this situation and recover positive energies.

How to ward off spiritual obsessors
How to get rid of spiritual obsessors? Well, first of all, you need to take care of the energies you emanate. When we are vibrating at lower frequencies, we attract bad things into our lives. Attitudes such as judging, complaining, being selfish, and encouraging evil are a bridge to this unwanted encounter.

Here are some tips to avoid the negative energies of obsessive spirits and other malevolent entities:
• Try to adopt a healthier lifestyle in all aspects – including healthy eating (and a good mental and spiritual relationship with food).
• Practice physical exercises and techniques such as meditation and breathing.
• Strengthen your faith with the help of celestial beings, such as your guardian angel. Try saying a prayer to ward off the obsessive spirit.
• Maintain a balanced home with the help of plants, amulets, and protective crystals. Pets also elevate the energies of the house, thanks to their purity and selfless love. Not to mention they are wonderful companions.
• Consider techniques like Feng Shui, as it helps to channel and direct the energies of the home and other environments.

Spiritual intervention
We mentioned above some practices to avoid the influence of obsessive spirits, but these actions are not always sufficient, especially when spiritual domination has already occurred. There are three distinct levels of obsession, in increasing order of intensity: simple obsession, fascination, and subjugation.

Simple obsession involves attempting to create obstacles in the life of the obsessed person, who manages to perceive that something is influencing them. Fascination involves a spiritual action on the victim's thoughts, causing them to lose the power of decision and be controlled by an external force. Subjugation, on the other hand, implies the total loss of control on the part of the obsessed person, who ends up "giving up" their body to the spirit's dwelling place, which then drains all their strength.

Depending on the degree of obsession, it may be necessary to carry out the exorcism in a Spiritist center, or a spiritualized place – such as Umbanda or Candomblé centers. It is therefore necessary to understand each level of control in order to adopt the appropriate treatment.

But, despite causing great misfortune in the lives of their targets, the obsessors are the ones most harmed by their actions, since this distances them even further from their evolution. And, even if we need help from higher entities to escape this situation of spiritual dominance, we need to nourish our spirit with kindness. Living with dignity and doing good is already a good start to keeping ourselves away from anything that could distort our character.
