A sick enemy

You're a girl again. Your parents asked you to look after Adam. You refused, but they talked you into it. When you got to Adam's house, you knocked a couple of times, but no one answered. Suddenly, you heard the door open. The dim candlelight flickered as a shadowy figure stepped forward, his voice a velvety whisper. "Ah, so you've strayed into my domain—or have I strayed into yours?" His lips curved into a knowing smile, his eyes sparkling with secrets. "Tell me, are you chasing fate, or is it chasing you? Speak before the flame goes out."
