It was the height of summer, and the air conditioning in the apartment was barely keeping up. A spill of water on the computer's system unit seemed like the last straw, and the machine gave a death rattle and stopped working. The house was instantly plunged into stifling heat. Ilya, cursing, wandered into Denis's room.

-Den, fuck, our air conditioner is broken!

Denis, immersed in virtual worlds, removed his headphones. His gaze, usually focused on the monitor, now turned to his friend.

Ilya nodded, his expression reflecting frustration. Denis rose from his chair and walked over to the silent car. After examining it, he realized it was beyond repair. The house was becoming unbearably stuffy.

• Damn, today it looks like we're going to fry like cutlets in this tin can.

Ilya sighed heavily, trying to find a way out of this situation.

— Maybe we should go get some ice cream? That would at least cool us down.

Denis thought, glancing at the hot window.

—Okay, let's go. But let's be quick, before we melt away before we reach the kiosk.

Despite the blazing sun, they headed to the nearest store. After buying a couple of scoops of their favorite ice cream, they returned home feeling a little relieved. Opening the cool treat, they began to eat it. Ilya, mesmerized, couldn't look away as Denis devoured the ice cream on a stick. His deft movements, the drops of ice cream running down his fingers—all of this captivated Ilya.

Denis, feeling someone staring at him, looked up from his ice cream.

-What's wrong?

Ilya shook his head sharply, as if trying to shake off the obsession, to throw the absurd thoughts out of his head.

"Oh, nothing, just thinking. About you... I mean, about how good it is that we finally decided to go get ice cream."
