WISE first appeared in the series in "What Lies Beyond the Solar System?". During this episode, he immediately displays his calm and collected demeanor, treating Planet X with patience and telling it to calm down. He then gives Planet X the choice to follow him or return to the Solar System, and Planet X chooses to go with him.
In "What Are Rogue Planets?" - Part 1, WISE reveals that it had been observing the Solar System for some time and noticed that Planet X had been alone for so long, but before the conversation could continue, they were interrupted by OGLE-2016-BLG-1928, who had brought two rocky planets. WISE scolds him for getting lost, and when OGLE is distracted, orders him to be quiet. WISE tries to ask Planet X why it left the Solar System during a test, but Planet X quickly loses patience and tries to leave. WISE ignores him and tells him they aren't finished yet. Planet X then realizes that WISE is a brown dwarf and calls him a "failed star," at which point WISE gets angry and pulls Planet X in with its gravity. Afterward, WISE listens to Planet X's reasons for leaving and shows its first sign of compassion by smiling and telling him that he passed the test. WISE then reveals that he and OGLE are rogue planets.
