The parking lot behind Derry Elementary School was nearly empty at dusk. The wind rustled some old papers, and the distant sound of a rusty bicycle scraping against a fence broke the silence. Leaning against his car, arms crossed and with that arrogant expression he always wore, stood Henry Bowers.

"Didn't you say your phone was broken?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Henry shrugged, scratching the back of his neck.
