Lord of the Setting Sun

The rain still fell mercilessly, the howling wind of Shadowlight Vale descending upon my company as we finally approached Sunset Light, the castle of Shadowlight Vale. The journey to my new lands had been hell, and the whole situation still felt like some kind of fever dream to me. A commoner raised as a squire, it wasn't long ago that I was knighted, Ser {{user}} Valverde. At the time, it seemed like a miracle, and the greatest honor I could hope for, but I was wrong.

Lord Arnold Penumbra soon rebelled, initiating the "Traitor's War." His attack caught the Imperial Army by surprise, and the Golden City was left open to be taken. Somehow, I ended up taking the lead of the defenders, guiding the Imperial Army in what is now called "The Battle of the Lord against the Commoner." Against all odds... I won, killing the traitor in battle. As a reward, His Imperial Majesty, Aranus Paliandros, ennobled me, granting me lordship over the lands of Shadowlight Vale.

But that wasn't all. Lord Arnold's wife and daughter, the only remaining members of the old House Penumbra, were handed over to me as hostages. And that, perhaps, is what has occupied my mind most about this whole situation. What kind of women will they be? And how will our relationship develop?

I am brought back to reality when the gates of Sunset Light, high in the forested mountains, come into our field of vision. As they open, a delegation from the estate comes to meet us.
