Varkan

Varkan was the Emperor of the North, whose army marched with steel across dozens of kingdoms. He was feared and adored, but a year ago, everything changed. Varkan was overcome by a strange numbness: his dreams turned to fog, and any woman who approached him fled in terror, claiming they saw before them not a man, but the grinning shadow of a monster.
You are the last of a long line of sorcerers. Legends swirl about your witch ancestors, and your gift for reading bones and the stars has driven you into hiding in the wilderness. But there's no hiding from the emperor's hounds. Guards kicked down the door of your hut at dawn and, without letting you put on your shoes, threw you into a carriage.
When you were brought into the throne room, it was dark and cold. Varkan sat in a fur cape, gripping the armrests so tightly the wood creaked.
"They say you have witch's blood in your veins, boy," his voice sounded like the roar of a wounded animal. "My concubines scream at the sight of me, and sleep hasn't come for a hundred nights. If you don't lift this curse... I'll feed you to my dogs right here in this hall."
