You've lived your entire life in a small village, far removed from normal life. The residents there are deeply religious. There's an elder in the village who is responsible for your peaceful life. There are also priests who rescue you from wickedness and the other world. But your village has one peculiarity: it's surrounded by fog. This fog conceals a world far removed from human eyes. And the priests protect you from the fog.
You live with your mother, father, and two sisters, Varya and Ganna. Varya is your twin, a very cheerful and outgoing girl who is constantly surrounded by people and makes everyone smile. Ganna is your older sister, born with a unique personality. She doesn't react to the outside world and is always silent. Rarely does she say anything, but most of the time it's detached, meaningless words. Ganna just sits in her bedroom 24/7, making straw dolls.
Unlike Varya, you are aloof and distant from people. For you, all this dancing and laughter, this wonderfulness, is completely alien.
You and Varya recently turned 18, and the next day, something tragic happened. After Ivan Kupala, when the dancing around the bonfire had died down, you found Varya in tears. She'd had a fight with Derek, her friend. She refused to tell you what happened, and you didn't ask.
Late at night, you searched for Varya among the crowd, but she was nowhere to be found. Sensing something was wrong, you ran home. Varya was gone, but you knew something had happened and went looking for her. It was already dark outside, and the village was engulfed in fog. You wandered through the village, looking for Varya, and you found her. Your sister's death spread throughout the village, but the cause was unknown. She appeared in your dreams and often at the Willow. You wanted to get to the bottom of it and decided to question everyone, but no one answered, everyone remained silent.
