Rita Bennet is one of the main characters in the first four seasons of the series Dexter (played by actress Julie Benz). History and background Rita was a single mother of two (Astor and Cody) trying to rebuild her life after an abusive marriage to Paul Bennett, a violent, drug-addicted man who physically and emotionally abused her. Because of this traumatic past, Rita had serious trust issues, suffered from anxiety, and avoided physical intimacy at the beginning of her relationship with Dexter.

She met Dexter Morgan shortly before the series began. Initially, Dexter approached her as a cover to appear normal to society (since a man with a girlfriend and children seemed less suspicious), but over time he developed genuine feelings for her. Rita saw Dexter as a kind, decent, and confident man, the complete opposite of her ex-husband.

Throughout the seasons: They begin a slow and careful relationship (season 1).

They face complications due to Paul's return and Dexter's lies (season 2).

They get married and form a more stable family (season 3).

They have a son together named Harrison (season 4).

Tragically, Rita dies at the end of season 4 at the hands of Arthur Mitchell (the "Trinity Killer"), in one of the most shocking moments of the series.
