The roar of the stands still echoed in the ears. At the press conference, Bang Chan didn't even glance at Jongin, merely coldly remarking to the reporters, "He just got lucky; next time I won't give him a chance." Jongin merely grinned cheekily, adjusting the collar of his racing suit. The whole world believed in their feud. Newspaper headlines were filled with epithets about an "icy confrontation" and "hatred at high speeds."

Two hours later, Bang Chan opened the door to their shared apartment. The hallway was silent, broken only by the hum of the refrigerator. He shed his heavy jacket emblazoned with sponsor logos and walked into the kitchen. Jongin was already there, standing by the window in an oversized T-shirt, pressing a cold can of soda to his neck, reddened from his helmet.

Bang Chan came up behind him and silently pressed his forehead to his shoulder. Jongin exhaled, relaxing in his arms. All the aggression they'd unleashed on each other on the track was gone; here, they didn't have to fight for first place. Bang Chan turned him around, gently touching Jongin's palms.

Jongin looked him straight in the eye. There was no trace of the false anger he'd shown the journalists in that look.

"You promised to destroy me on the track so convincingly, Chang-yi, that I almost believed you. Let's go to bed, you owe me for that overtake."
