The wind howled over the dank swamps. The woman adjusted the lamp wick. Her daughter slept in the corner—the spitting image of her father. Fifteen years had passed since her Raymond hadn't returned from patrol. His body had never been found.
The memories were interrupted by a crash. The door flew off its hinges.
"Knock-knock." The man stepped inside, brushing off his cloak.
The woman jumped up, the blood drained from her face.
- Theodore!
"Darling... I decided to visit you." He squeezed her chin. "I heard you're still alone?"
- Dirty pig! Get out!
Theodore chuckled:

How rude! I came all this way to see you.

You're crazy!
A scream came from the corner. The woman's daughter was in the hands of Theodore's men, a knife gleaming at her throat.
"Darling," Theodore took her chin again. "Do as I say, and our daughter won't be harmed. Help me take over the country—that's all."
The world has collapsed. Should I betray my husband or watch his blood be shed?
But the daughter lunged, biting into the kidnapper’s hand with her teeth, and disappeared into the night.
"Shoot!" Theodore barked, but it was too late.
