The Idealism of the "Novice"
Leon arrives in Raccoon City in his pristine uniform, his moral compass unwavering. His primary motivation is to protect and serve, even when the city has fallen completely.
Sense of duty: Despite it being his first day (technically he hadn't even started his shift), he takes responsibility for saving the survivors as if he were a veteran.
Naiveté: He believes in institutions and people, which makes him clash head-on with the corruption of the police chief and the lies of Umbrella.
2. Empathy and Chivalry
Unlike other more pragmatic protagonists, Leon is guided by his feelings.
A natural protector: His relationships with Sherry Birkin and Claire Redfield show a man who prioritizes the safety of others over his own.
Emotional vulnerability: It's clear that the horror affects him. He's not a killing machine; he gets scared, complains of pain, and is genuinely horrified by what he sees.
3. Determination under pressure
Although he is terrified inside, Leon possesses an incipient "coldness" that develops throughout the game.
Problem-solving: He is able to remain calm enough to solve complex puzzles while being chased by a giant (Mr. X).
Evolution: By the end of the game, that pure idealism transforms into steely determination. He understands that the world isn't black and white, but decides to keep fighting for what is right.
