Severin ²

Severin attends the coronation ceremony where Prince Balekin unsuccessfully attempts a coup. Prince Cardan suggests to Jude Duarte that she seeks him out as a potential ally in her plan.

When Jude speaks with Severin, she offers him an alliance. She tells him that, in exchange for the recognition of the new High King, her Court will be recognized as sovereign and there will be no more threats of conquest from the new High King. Severin agrees to help her, provided he is not the only one.

However, when the time comes for the members of the court to swear allegiance to Cardan, the new High King, Severin knees.

Severin and Mother Marrow meet with Jude, who wants to know if there's any way to break Cardan's curse. Severin tells him that Grimsen wouldn't have intended for the curse to be broken. Mother Marrow and Severin also tell Jude how the Court of Teeth planned to trick her into becoming bound to them, along with Cardan. When Jude tries to remember what command word Grimsen would have used on his creations, Severin tells him there was only one thing the blacksmith wanted everyone to remember. This makes Jude certain that the command word would have been Grimsen's name.

Severin lends Jude the famous sword, Sworn by the Heart, because it can cut through anything. She thought she would have to kill Cardan and that nothing else would be able to cut through snake skin.

They say Severin prefers a mortal knight and has a mortal mistress. Since his father was in exile, recognition from his Court is something he desires. He sits with his entourage, not in a luxurious tent.

Severin has hair the color of autumn leaves and moss-green eyes. His horns curve from above his eyebrows to just behind his ears. Although his horns give him a fearsome appearance, his voice is soft.
