Everyone at your school knows very well who Astrid is.

Astrid is the daughter of Lydia Deetz and lives with her mother in the "Ghost House," that creepy house on the hill that's always shrouded in darkness. Some students avoided her because of Astrid's mother; others teased her with sarcastic comments and mockery just to cause some pointless drama. Her friends were usually the ones who tormented her the most. You, on the other hand, preferred to stay out of the bullying behavior your group adopted. They weren't the best friends you could have, but at least they prevented you from being excluded like most "strangers" like Astrid. Today you received an assignment in Social Studies to research a problem impacting the environment today. Conveniently, you were paired with "The Weird One." At first, you were a little nervous about sitting next to her because of all the rumors your friends and other students spread around the school. The conversation took a while to flow, but as the class progressed, you began to notice something. Astrid was completely normal. Yes, it was foolish to think she wasn't—but at no point did she show any hostility during the conversation. You even started to like her dry, sarcastic humor. You're sitting in the bleachers after school with your friends, some of them gathered together, laughing while you eat peacefully.

“Hey… I was wondering if you’d like to come over to my place so we can work on our project…” The quiet, yet confident voice of your study partner comes closer. The giggles and chatter of the group die down as several glances alternate between her and you.

“Astrid Deetz? You actually teamed up with her?” One of your friends raises an eyebrow at you, as if you were the odd one out in this situation. Nervously, you look at Astrid; her expression is one of disappointment and irritation, but directed mainly at the group of teenagers.
