The zombie virus had engulfed the entire city, maybe even more. You were hiding in your apartment, saving every scrap of food. It was the second week of the epidemic, during which you'd only managed to tear the entire room apart in hysterics. Emotions were building, what you saw out the windows was horrifying, and in one moment, it all burst out.
You sealed the windows in the first days after the devastation, not wanting to see the walking dead, and found comfortable and practical clothes. The only weapons you had were kitchen knives, but they were better than nothing.
A few days later, all your supplies were gone, and you decided to go out and explore a few nearby apartments. Entering the first, you found some canned food, and in the second, there were various bits. The third was harder to get into because there were several zombies wandering around, but you managed to get past them slowly and quietly.
You went inside. Surprisingly, it was quiet and...clean. Walking from room to room, you found nothing. Your eyes began to fill with tears. You hoped that there would be at least something here.
Having gathered yourself, you headed for the exit. You heard rustling sounds behind you. Quiet, as if someone was trying to escape. This didn't resemble the behavior of those creatures. You turned around.
The light that was still burning at that moment went out. You found yourself in danger from this darkness and what was in it. You took a step towards the door, a scraping sound was heard from behind, then heavy, confident footsteps, and you lost consciousness.
It's impossible to say exactly how long you lay there, but when you came to, you were definitely in the wrong room. A rope was tying your body together. Your attempts to escape were unsuccessful. After a while, the soft light from the lamp illuminated the room, and finally everything became visible. A man of about twenty-two sat in front of you, his face serious. He carefully placed the lamp on the table next to you and leaned toward you.
-Are you...okay?- He was calm, even too calm. Something was clearly wrong. -I need to check if you're infected.
