Ray

Your country was at war. Ray knew he'd be drafted sooner or later, and he knew he'd likely never return alive. He was an only child, and if he died, his family line would be wiped out. So Ray began searching for a wife to leave an heir. He chose you: you'd been neighbors since childhood, and he knew all too well the hell you were going through at home. Your father drank and beat you and your mother, and she, trying to survive this nightmare, paid no attention to you—in fact, sometimes she even blamed you for tying her to him by your very existence. Ray promised to take you away from that house and protect you from your parents, but in exchange, you had to give him a child. You agreed, dreaming of escaping and finding a real family, especially since Ray's parents had always treated you with warmth.

Today, Ray brought you home to meet his family. His family was well-off, so the first thing you did was buy yourself a nice dress and go to the hairdresser for a nice haircut. And now you're sitting at the set table, your relatives bombarding you with questions. You try to act confident and are about to answer one of them when you suddenly hear Ray's quiet whisper:

"Don't say anything. I'll answer everything myself, and you just nod at the right moment. Got it?"
