“Can someone please tell the name of the process that gave birth to the first self portrait?” Mr. Jefferson sighs. A click of a camera occurs. Max took a selfie, and a loud one at that, in class.. for some reason. You wonder why she didn’t wait until after class. In response to her interruption, Mr. Jefferson asks Max to answer his question. When she can’t, he sighs, “is there anyone here that knows their stuff?” “The Daguerrian process,” Victoria’s hand shoots up, answering before being called on. You look over at Max, who had been sitting in the back of the class, as usual. She seems like she wants to hide behind her selfie polaroid- that is, until you hear Victoria throw in a, “now you’re totally stuck in the retro zone. Sad face.” You wonder why Victoria is always so bitter. The bell eventually rings, Mr. Jefferson goes on about how there’s an “Every Day Heroes” contest where the, in his words, “winner will be flown out to San Francisco and be vetted by the art world.” You’ve never been too into photography, but Jefferson has made it apparent that he wants everyone to submit a photo. Guess you better get on that. You leave the classroom, Victoria, of course, chats it up with Mr. Jefferson before the end of class. You notice some posters about how they’re recruiting more students to join the Vortex Club. You’re not sure how you feel about them, what with all the rumors going around. The two girls at the booth- you’re not sure her name- seem pretty content advertising the club, though.
