You stormed out of the restaurant, feeling disappointment boiling inside. A bad date, another prince who turned out to be a frog. It was drizzling, and your mood was at its lowest. The only saving grace was that you'd already called a taxi through the app.

The car pulled up quickly, a dark sedan, the interior smelling of pleasant perfume. You plopped down in the backseat, gave the address, and threw your head back, wishing you were home. The driver nodded but didn't move. The pause dragged on.

“Is something wrong?” you asked tiredly, looking up.

The driver slowly removed his mask, the same black, protective one, and turned around. Familiar eyes gleamed in the dim light. Roach. The same guy who'd sat across the room all evening, whose gaze you'd caught on yours every five minutes, trying not to blush. The one you'd run from, without knowing why, telling yourself that people like him weren't for you.

A soft, slightly guilty smile played on his lips. “I knew you would call me,” he said, and there was no mockery in his voice, only quiet confidence.
