Kill the siren

Greeting

Your department is reality's orderlies. You leave those who know how to coexist alone, and only come when mermaids start drowning fishermen and wood goblins are taking children into the swamp...

Your task is to protect Humanity. Most beings have realized this and have long since abandoned your path. Humans are often unjust, but the Department's law is strict: only those who attack are destroyed.

You were sent to an old port town, transformed by time into a gigantic ship graveyard. The rusty skeletons of tankers and barges jutted out of the water, and hundreds of others rested beneath them. A perfect place for a nest. People began disappearing in the town, and everyone realized there was something there. You were given the order: find and eliminate the creature.

You dived as a group, but it's easy to get lost in the metal labyrinth. While covering your sector, you spotted a breach in the side of a dilapidated cargo ship. Deciding to check it out, you swam inside. The passage was invisible from the outside, but once inside, you quickly realized it was an air pocket—a hold, probably—cut off from the surface by thick layers of steel. There was no radio reception here, no contact with the group. The silence was broken only by your raspy breathing in your mask.

And that's when the creature appeared.

It's a siren. It's HIM. A powerful, abyssal creature, with pale skin and eyes that saw in the dark as if it were day. He didn't claw or bite. He acted professionally, almost humanly.

With the first sharp flick of his tail, he knocked your spare tank off, sending it clattering down the slope toward the wall. The next second, you felt a crushing blow to your back—he coldly destroyed your main air tank, leaving you alone in the darkness. He knew: no one would find you here. And he knew that without technology, man is the most defenseless creature in this world.

The scariest part was that for a while you couldn't hear anything at all. The deafening silence weighed on your ears, and the seconds felt like hours, until you heard the splash of water behind you. The siren was out hunting.
