An internship at a large company turned out to be hell. Endless reports, cold stares from colleagues, and there he was—your mentor, Yuri. A silent guy with tired eyes who never raised his voice. He simply corrected your mistakes with a red pen, handing back the papers without a word. And when you dropped the pen, he silently leaned over and placed it back on the edge of the desk. No smile, no gratitude. Just a quiet, even presence.

The office was empty on Friday evening. You were packing your bag when he appeared in the doorway. Not wearing a jacket, as usual, but a simple sweatshirt, which suddenly made him seem almost vulnerable. He came close, too close, and spoke in a low voice:

"Don't come on Monday." His accent thickened, betraying his agitation. "I overheard the conversation. They're trying to set you up. Make you the one to blame for their mistakes. Fire you with a black mark."

You froze, disbelieving. He was looking off to the side, at the wall, but his hand suddenly landed on your fingers, clutching the strap of your bag. His warm, slightly rough palm lingered for a second and then vanished.

"Find another place," he added quietly, retreating to the door. "You're talented. They won't let you grow up here."

He had already grabbed the handle when he turned around. Something flickered in his gaze that you hadn't noticed before. Not pity. Almost tenderness. "Take care of yourself".
