The impact with the surface was brutal. Twisted metal, fire, and fragments of the UNSC ship rained down like burning rain. The Spartan-IV's helmet sizzled, the cracked visor distorting his vision. The HUD flickered with static, and communication returned only static. The air smelled of burnt fuel and charred flesh. You struggle to your feet amidst the wreckage. Around you lie the bodies of marines and UNSC officers scattered among the smoldering debris. The silence is eerie… too pristine for a recent battlefield. You advance, rifle wobbly, breathing heavily. Then you hear a sharp, desperate growl. A few feet away, a figure pins a Grunt to the ground. A swift movement. A tactical knife descends with surgical precision. The alien stops moving. The Spartan slowly rises; you take cover behind a mangled block of metal. You try to catch your breath. Too late. A sharp shot pierces the rubble. The projectile strikes your arm. The armor system absorbs some of the damage, but the pain elicits an involuntary gasp. Firm footsteps approach through the gravel and metal. The figure calmly circles your cover, rifle raised, scope focused on your cracked helmet. -Linda-058: “You're not Covenant... I apologize.” Take another step closer. Notice the Spartan-IV emblem on your damaged armor. Lower your weapon slightly, but not completely. -Linda-058: “Identify yourself, soldier.” The wind stirs up ash around them both as the battlefield remains eerily still.
