Gyokko has a very bizarre and grotesque physiology, taking on the form of a pale white, abstracted, grotesque humanoid figure with a muscular upper torso that has no arms and resembles that of an armless statue growing from a white porcelain vase that is decorated with branch of green leaves and red, yellow, and dark green with purple leaves, similar to a djinn. His midsection is a red-violet color while his lower-half, or his tail is black. He has multiple underdeveloped and infant-like hands with red fingernails; four on his head that replaced his ears and were always present, and several lining up his body and tail which he can retract at will. He also posess thin fins on the top and back of his head that were akin to hair, which are of a blended hue of purple and a blue-violet color and shaped in the style of cornrows and a ponytail.

Gyokko's face was even more distorted, with large green-lipped mouths located where one would expect his eyes sockets to be located, which always displayed his hyperrealistic teeth and sometimes has one of or both of his tongues sticking out, along with a sharp nose. His actual eyes are located vertically from one another on his face; one eye, golden yellow iris with a honey brown center and visible veins, appeared in the constantly open bottom mouth and the other, similarly golden yellow eye with a honey brown center and visible veins, is seated at the center of his forehead. Three brown dots were on top of the latter eye. The kanji for Upper Rank (上じょう弦げん, Jōgen?) is engraved on his forehead's eye and the daiji for Five (伍ご, Go?) is engraved on his mouth's eye. In addition, his twin green mouths are generally expressionless and only move when speaking or eating, while the mouth that displays his lower eye is the one that contorts to display Gyokko's emotions.

When in battle, Gyokko is shown to molt and transform into his true form, which bore heavy resemblance to that of a merman. In this state, Gyokko retains his facial features and muscular physique but now posess a more humanoid body with two large arms replacing his many small ones, along with webbed hands with turquoise scales and sharpened fingers. Although he still didn't have legs, Gyokko instead acquired a long, teal, serpent-like tail in place of them. Gyokko also grows much larger, becoming covered in transparent scales, and attained dark markings on various places around his body. While he still kepts his cornrow-styled fin "hair", Gyokko obtains a lot more blue-violet fins throughout his body; he has long mane comprisied of fins, and they also lined up the top-half of his tail. In addition, the mouth which displayed his lower eye has 4 stitches, with 2 on each side, giving it a rag-doll like appearance.

Gyokko is shown to be an easily excitable demon, constantly fawning over new inspirations for what he deems his "art" or what he finds to be sublime, sometimes even going against his initial impressions. He is easily swayed into euphoria whenever Muzan Kibutsuji was involved, trying not only to please him, but finding joy in being decapitated and having his head held by Muzan. Although he was dismayed he would have to work together with Hantengu, he nonetheless reasoned it was fine since Muzan ordered it. He also seems to be somewhat sardonic and condescending; upon sensing Akaza's presence within the Infinity Castle, he almost let out his inner feelings to the demon about being glad he believed him to be dead before correcting himself mid-sentence, even if Akaza was not fooled by his false support. Gyokko is also short-tempered, shallow, and arrogant, especially when it comes to things regarding his "art". Gyokko is an incredibly petty and jealous demon. While demons usually have a scornful view on humans, Gyokko's misanthropy is to the extreme. Gyokko is incredibly sadistic and has a particularly morbid sense of taste, which was showcased when Douma told him he placed a human head on top of his pots like a plant; although Gyokko was slightly taken aback since the pot was not made with such an intention in mind, he nonetheless approved of such use and decided to use it as further inspiration.

His extreme sadism is further exposed when he went into great detail of explaining his "artwork"; from the many distorted body parts that stood out, to the built-in "feature" of being able to twist a stabbed sword in order to cause extreme pain and bleeding to one of the mangled swordsmiths, demonstrating he not only left his victims unnaturally alive, but that unlike other Upper Ranks, Gyokko liked to draw out his victims’ suffering. When he was a human his name was Managi, his disturbed and violent mind was evident since childhood. His morbid sense of beauty and artwork was seen when he thought the corpses of his drowned parents were beautiful, and when he killed and skinned animals and fish to use for his art pieces. His fragile pride was demonstrated when the mere teasing of a village child enraged Managi enough for him to murder the child and stuff the corpse in a vase, the incident which caused him to be nearly lynched before turning into a demon by Muzan. Despite his notorious depravity and arrogance, Gyokko can have occasional moments of rationality. He hesitates in allowing Douma to accompany him into the Swordsmith Village, knowing that it would be without Muzan's explicit permission.

As the holder of the fifth highest position in the Twelve Kizuki, Gyokko is an extremely powerful demon. His unique Blood Demon Art and techniques allow him to easily outclass the average demons and give him the necessary edge to overwhelm and kill even the Hashira, the most skilled and powerful swordsman in the Demon Slayer Corps. As Upper Rank Five, Gyokko is more powerful than Gyutaro and Daki. Gyokko displays many impressive feats, such as spawning a plethora of powerful demon-like creatures with unique attacks, highly unorthodox movement both within and out of his pots, and a second hidden form that only few people had seen. Talented Artist: Due to his obsession with pots, Gyokko became very skilled at painting and making them, so much so that Muzan has taken a keen interest in them, even selling them for a high price, implying that they were made with amazing skill and craftsmanship..

Flesh Manipulation: Like all demons, Gyokko posess the ability to manipulate his own flesh. He used this ability to shift his facial features and adopt his unusual djinn-like physiology. Gyokko also displayed the ability to grow numerous short arms on his head and torso, even while he was decapitated by Muzan. Additionally, Gyokko's numerous vases were made from his own flesh, as seen when he was able to instantly form them in his hand in order to use. Immense Regeneration: As an Upper Rank demon, Gyokko has a very powerful regeneration. This was shown when he survived being decapitated by Muzan Kibutsuji and later sealed off the wound and reattached his head. He also displays the ability to quickly heal injuries inflicted by Nichirin Swords without much difficulty. Most astoundingly, Gyokko is shown being able to survive direct decapitation from a Nichirin sword, attempting to grow his body back from the stump of his neck. Molting Transformation: In dire situations, Gyokko can molt and transform into his true form, boosting all his abilities and liberating him from his vase, allowing him to move freely without needing to teleport. Gyokko's true body is extremely durable as well, since the Upper Rank remarked that the scales that cover his body are harder than diamond. Godlike Hands (神かみの手て, Kami no Te?): When Gyokko is in his molted form, he unlocks a new ability where anything the Upper Rank's fist touches was near-instantly transmuted into fish, which made him extremely dangerous to fight in close range.

Immense Durability: As an Upper Rank, Gyokko posess an extremely durable body superior to that of Gyutaro, whose neck was nigh-uncuttable to Tanjiro Kamado. A single slash from a nichirin katana can only somewhat penetrate Gyokko's neck instead of cutting it off. Immense Speed & Reflexes: Gyokko is incredibly fast, having Unlimited Stamina & Endurance: Like all demons, Gyokko posses infinite stamina and endurance. He first displays this when being decapitated by Muzan, where the Upper Rank didn't show any signs of pain, and even commented on how pleasurable it was. Furthermore, Gyokko commented on how having a sword slash his neck was beautiful.

Skilled Hand-to-hand Combat: Normally, Gyokko's legless djinn body and extremely small arms gave him one of, if not the weakest physical abilties out of all the Upper Ranks. This forces him to rely on his versatile Blood Demon Art for battle. However, it is a different story when Gyokko is in his true form, as although he is not as advanced as Akaza's martial artistry, Gyokko became a skilled and dangerous brawler after molting. His fighting style revolves around using his flexible serpentine body to slither and glide around his opponent with immense speed, using any opportunity to punch at them using his bare transmutative fists, and unleash attacks from his durable scales. However, due to the rarity of Gyokko molting in the first place, Gyokko only deviates towards going fisticuffs if in a tight predicament.

Porcelain Vase Spells: Gyokko's Blood Demon Art revolves around his porcelain vases. He is able to spawn them anywhere within his vicinity and create multiple pots of varying sizes at once. Gyokko first displays the ability to freely teleport from one pot to another instantaneously, offsetting his lack of legs and allowing him to travel far distances with minimal effort as well as to evade attacks easily. Gyokko can also trap objects (such as people) inside his pots. If the object he wishes to seal is too big, the pots can simply compress them to fit inside. The pots also seem to give Gyokko liberty of whatever is inside, which he uses to merge the swordsmiths together in impossible ways and allows him to create whatever he pleases inside them. Gyokko can spawn numerous gigantic fish-like amalgamations, they are unable to be killed by regular means and only die when the pots on their back are destroyed. These creatures all posses unique traits and characteristics, some has sharp claws some has multiple humanoid legs or even monstrous teeth. They also seems to be decently powerful. Gyokko's Blood Demon Art is notably themed around the sea and aquatic lifeforms, as his techniques are based on summoning non-sentient creatures that resembles fish from his pots. These fish monsters similarly posses differing abilities and characteristics: some of them can shoot out a barrage of poisonous needles at his targets or leave behind dangerous poison once they are killed. He also can summon goldfish-like monsters with scythe-like appendages. Gyokko can also summon giant octopus tentacles from his vases to restrain his enemies or destroy the surroundings. Gyokko can also manipulate and create water from his porcelain vases, which he can use as a cannon-like attack in which he shoots out powerful streams of water or shape water into sharp, high-pressure tendrils to cut targets like a sharp whip or even suffocate his targets by trapping them inside an extremely durable water vase

Fish Scale Attacks: Curiously, when in his molted form, Gyokko shows the ability to utilize his extremely durable scales for combat, a completely separate ability from his usual vase spells. They glow red and and manifest into physical attacks capable of clashing with a Nichirin Sword. This obscure Blood Demon Art is extremely dangerous due to its unpredictably and because of the immense speed given by Gyokko's serpentine body, as well as its potency having the ability to level several trees. However, not much is known about this alternative ability due to Gyokko scarcely using his true form.

Thousand Needle Fish Kill (千せん本ぼん針ばり魚ぎょ殺さつ, Senbonbari Gyosatsu?)- Gyokko summons floating goldfish-like demons from a sea-foam colored pot with seaweed patterns, which promptly spit out a barrage of poison-coated needles. The poison contains paralyzing properties which immobilize the target. There is seemingly no limit to how much needles they can produce, as the fish demons spit their needles on three seperate occasions. Water Prison Pot (水すい獄ごく鉢ばち, Suigokubachi?) - Gyokko creates a vase structure made out of water from a blue, ocean wave-patterned pot and traps the target with the intent to slowly drown them. The water suffocates the target and prevents them from using any breathing technique, making it difficult for them to break free and escape. The water structure is also dense and elastic enough to which it cannot be pierced with a sword Octopus Vase Hell (蛸たこ壺つぼ地じ獄ごく, Takotsubo Jigoku? - Gyokko manifests gigantic tentacles from red pots with suction cup patterns in order to restrain his targets. These tentacles are strong enough to destroy a shed and are noted to be extremely durable and springy Killer Fish Scales (陣じん殺さつ魚ぎょ鱗りん, Jinsatsu Gyorin?)[17] - In his true form, Gyokko delivers a wide-ranged barrage of physical attacks made all the more powerful by his immense speed and unusual body constitution. Through his special scales, he is able to manipulate his direction and attack at odd angles, making his attacks wildly unpredictable. Ten Thousand Gliding Slime-Fish (一いち万まん滑かっ空くう粘ねん魚ぎょ, Ichiman Kakkūnengyo?)[28] - Gyokko summons a total of ten thousand floating mackerel-like demons with sharp teeth from multiple striped pots with fish icons to attack his target and devour them whole, leaving nothing but bones. When these fish are cut, they release a poison before disintegrating completely. This poison is percutaneous, meaning it can merely be absorbed through the skin in order to kill a targe.

The Upper Ranks Meeting (上じょう弦げん集しゅう結けつ, Jōgen Shūketsu?) was a gathering that immediately followed the deaths of Upper Rank Six demons Daki and Gyutaro. It occurred in the Infinity Castle and concerned Muzan Kibutsuji's growing disappointment and lack of faith in the Twelve Kizuki's remaining Upper Ranks due to their inability to do as he ordered and succeed.

Prologue For 113 years, the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki have only been the ones to successfully kill members of the Hashira, the strongest swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps. On the other hand, Muzan had grown tired of the Lower Ranks' lack of success and its demons continuing to fail and live up to his expectations. Moreover, whilst the Upper Ranks have stayed the same for more than a century, the Lowers continue to shift and change position due to their frequent deaths. Following the deaths of the siblings, Akaza suddenly finds himself appearing inside the Infinity Castle. Initially confused, he immediately realizes that an Upper Rank was killed to cause him to be present in the fortress. Travelling across the Infinity Castle; passing through a large palace, shifting lower rooms, and a pillar-riddled maze before he is eventually taken before Nakime to a platform seemingly in the heart of the castle. A nearby pot senses him and the demon inside emerges to greet him. Gyokko, Upper Rank Five, speaks of his worry and "anguish" that Upper Three may have died within the 90 years they have last seen each other, but Akaza only becomes annoyed by his attempt at reconnection. The frightful and skittish Upper Rank Four, Hantengu appears nervous on a staircase nearby and assumes Gyokko has forgotten how to count years in the time they were seperated.
