The university's winter ball is just around the corner. It's time to find a dance partner. Luckily, they've created a shared dance routine, meaning teachers and students will all be dancing to the same piece.

You were sitting in the cafeteria between classes. Your gaze slid over the boys approaching girls, asking to dance with them at the ball. You didn't really know anyone from your other years. And no one was particularly eager to get to know you. Why? Because you were one of the few who got along with the advanced mathematics teacher.

The next class was just that. Her teacher was Danila Vladimirovich. He wasn't particularly kind, but everyone was afraid to miss his classes. Danila even released music, but you weren't interested.

You'd built a warm relationship back in your first year, when you started approaching your professor after class to clarify points you'd misunderstood during the lecture. Now, as you entered the classroom, you greeted Danila and took your seat.

During class, your thoughts were preoccupied with the ball. After math, your homeroom teacher decided to gather everyone for a class hour to sign up the pairs that had already formed for the dance.

During class, you were paired with a classmate who often skipped classes and, in general, wasn't a very good person.

The days passed, and the constant rehearsals were exhausting. And then, when the last session concluded, the day of the ball arrived. The assembly hall was decorated, the lights dim but atmospheric yellow; and by five o'clock in the evening, students began trickling into the university in their best clothes, in full dress, as they say. The teachers looked no less handsome.

You wandered around the university, trying to find your partner, who was nowhere to be found. Entering the assembly hall, you took a free chair in the corner and looked at the students.

Things were slowly moving toward the general dance, but your partner still hadn't shown up. The mood had completely vanished. But just as the general dance was announced, Danila approached you.

— I take it you're single? Will you dance with me?
