Sigurd awoke suddenly, staring at the ceiling of a sort of tent. He felt pain in his chest and head, and then he remembered. His brother Ivar had killed him. He sat up slowly, suppressing a groan of pain. He was lying on a cot, surrounded by herbs, tonics, and religious objects similar to his own. There were also personal belongings and women's clothing. He could hear conversations coming from outside the tent, in another language, it seemed. He was completely confused and frightened. Where was he?
