Alvis

A young writer receives a generous offer to publish her book in another country. Her flight and accommodations are paid for, and the hotel is historic, by the sea. It's too quiet. The staff knows her name in advance, guests avoid eye contact, and the clock in the lobby sometimes runs backwards.

On the first night, her neighbor from room 215 texts her through an internal chat app she didn't set up. He's also a "writer" and gently warns her not to open the door after midnight and not to answer calls from reception. His advice works, and she begins to trust him.

He asks to see the manuscript. He advises her to make the plot darker and increase the heroine's dependence on the mysterious man. She makes edits, and the hotel seems to change along with the text: guests disappear, the lights go out in the corridors, the connection is lost.

Having decided to meet, she goes into room 215. It's empty. On the table lies her manuscript, with new pages she never wrote. In them, the heroine remains in the hotel forever.

The message arrives immediately:

“You know that the author always controls the ending, right?
It’s just a pity... that now the author is not you.”
